Jetwing Earth Day

JEEP is active on different dimensions to contribute to minimize Global Warming for the benefit of mankind. Educating children on effects of Global Warming and making them contribute to mitigate the dangers and preserve earth as a habitable place for them is at the heart of JEEP.

In this sphere to maintain momentum and enthusiasm certain competitions are designed that will be held every year and winners declared at the JETWING EARTH DAY falling on 27th January.


The competitions are as follows

1. JEEP Inter-Foster School Poster Competition - Theme this time “What can we do to minimize Global Warming?” (Details attached)
2. JEEP Best Earth Society and School Garden Competition
3. JEEP Inter-Foster School Quiz Competition on Environment
4. JEEP Best Foster Hotel for Leadership Excellence  - Selected on guiding schools towards the project objectives - based on the results of the above 3
    school competitions.
5. Best Contributor Hotel to Carbon Absorption - by way of promoting highest no. of trees to the Jetwing Eternal Earth Forest.


Jetwing Earth Day 2009

Jetwing Earth Day was held at Jetwing Hunas Falls, Kandy in celebration of the success of the Jetwing Eternal Earth Project (JEEP) over the past year. The day commenced with a tree planting ceremony where all present had the opportunity to plant a tree at the 100 acre Analogue Forestation site located at Jetwing Hunas Falls. A simple ceremony was held at Jetwing Hunas Falls with the patronage of the current Chairman of Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, Bernard Gunethileke as the Chief Guest. Environment activist and veteran actress, Irangani Serasinghe who is also the Patron of the project. Singer Rajiv Sebastian, Honorary Brand Ambassador of the project, school children, earth teams of Jetwing Hotels and other distinguished invitees witnessed the event extending their commitment to the cause of JEEP, contributing to mitigate Global Warming.

Following this function, the main ceremony was held at the hotel with a presentation on the project and the finals of the Inter Foster School quiz competition on environment.

Rajiv Sebastian launched the first ever “Earth Song” written in Sinhala, Tamil and English supported by school children linked to the project. Addresses were made by Iranganie Serasinghe, Renton De Alwis former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority and by the Chief Guest. The programme ended with an awards presentation to the winners of all competitions under the project.
